Sudan is interested in using Russian technologies to develop the Red Sea shelf.

The Republic of Sudan is interested in using advanced Russian technologies to develop the Red Sea shelf. This was announced on August 7, 2025, by Jamal Hadi, Coordinator of Relations with the Russian Federation at a meeting between a delegation from the Sudan Ministry of Petroleum's Center for Petroleum and Technical Training, a research and educational division of the Ministry of Petroleum, and the leadership of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University).

The event was held at the university with the support of the Russian Ministry of Energy.

"Gubkin University is conducting promising research in the exploration and development of hard-to-recover offshore oil and gas reserves and has advanced technologies for training specialists to work at these sites," noted Jamal Hadi.

The university has established the only Offshore Drilling Center in the country and the third in the world, which uses digital twins of geological structures and can simulate any production situation. With the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the university has begun organizing Russia's first training ground for subsea production system equipment.

At a meeting at Gubkin University, the parties discussed the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Educational Cooperation between the Center for Petroleum and Technical Training of the Republic of Sudan and the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University).

Gubkin University has expanded its international cooperation from 74 to 97 countries worldwide from 2022 to the present. Specifically, it has begun accepting students from Laos, Malaysia, Rwanda, and other countries. The university trains oil and gas specialists for leading Russian and international companies and develops advanced technologies for the industry.
